Hygiene Kits for the Heat: Our Help the Homeless Summer Project

Writer's picture: Brian SharpBrian Sharp

We've always wanted to expand our winter homeless outreach project as we know the need is just as important during the hot summer season.

This summer, through our Help the Homeless Summer Project, we teamed up with our amazing project sponsors and volunteers to deliver 200+ hygiene kits to our friends at The Gathering Inn—just in time to help their guests stay a bit more comfortable during the heatwave.

What’s in the Kits?

Each kit included new supplies including:

  • Water packet

  • Towel

  • Wipe

  • Toothpaste and toothbrush

  • Razor

  • Mouthwash

  • Deodorant

  • Sunglasses

  • Chapstick

  • Hair brush

  • Mirror

  • feminine hygiene products

While these items might seem like everyday essentials, to someone facing homelessness—especially in extreme weather—they can be a lifeline.

Why These Items Matter

Many of The Gathering Inn’s guests are staying at a mobile shelter in tents. As you can imagine, living outdoors under the scorching sun is incredibly tough. Simple items like hygiene kits can help people feel dignified and healthier—one less worry in their day-to-day struggles. By making sure they have personal care products, clean water, and relief from the heat, we hope to show that they’re not forgotten, and that our community genuinely cares about their well-being.

Partners Who Make It Possible

This project wouldn’t have been possible without:

  • Insperity – We’re deeply thankful for their support in both sponsoring and helping assemble the kits.

  • Sacramento Team – Their hands-on help ensured all of our hygiene kits were packed, organized, and ready for delivery.

  • Mountain Valley Petroleum – Their generous donation fueled our mission and allowed us to go the extra mile.

And, of course, we must give a very special thank-you to Project Leaders Ami Fetter & Sondra Nunez, whose unwavering passion, dedication, and coordination truly made it happen. Their leadership helps the Tower of Niceness touch more lives each summer.

A Little Help Goes a Long Way

At Tower of Niceness, our goal is to remind people that—no matter their circumstances—they are cared for and valued. Especially during a relentless summer, when the heat can overshadow hope, small gestures of kindness can bring light. We’re grateful to everyone who stepped up to make this project a success and look forward to more opportunities to spread niceness together.
